They dont dance no more…

Image They dont dance no more… wait?! What? Yes they do.

We all know there was a drought of dancing in a?erica but that drouoght has been over for like six seven years. Now that is not saying dancing is now cool again like it was in the 80s but people definetly dance. And i dont just mean bump and grinding and slow dancing either. People are throwing down.
Almost like it is cyclical which it probably is culture has revolved all the way around to having a dancing in popular hip hop culture. . Maybe it is because during the bush years things seemed so bad that people need to kick their shoes off and do they thing. Maybe it was because hood music had started to decline in popularity and it was cool again to not be a gangsta? Maybe it was because people always wanted to dance just never got around to it… either way people are hitting the dance floor.

There was a time when you go to the club and nobody was dancing at all. You could see everybody waiting for somebody else to make a move and when finally that one song usually an r. Kelly song came on it was finally acceptable to dance. Now that being said many still do not feel the urge to cut the rug but the next generation definitley have the fever. They have all kind of lame dances just like in the 80s you know dances that just about everybody can do and are just plain fun.

Why the change? To be honest i really dont know. Soljia boy really made a big dent in the way people looked at music. Lol. To me when i think about it; it must been like the 2006 fresh prince cause he was rapping about report cards and other stuff the we adults just dont even think about. After that there was a big youth uprising in the music scene. Some of them still in high school while blowing up into stardom. Soon it became cool to dance if you that age and there was a new dance like everyweek! Now most of them were ridiculous and i dare you to youtube “do the spiderman” and go from there.

All in all i guess the big difference is in the eighties everybody danced. Everybody had danced moved relegated to the type of music you listened too and the age you were. Now the youngsters are out there having fun. No wonder the lanscape of hip hop is revolving over to the 90s late eighties esoteric artsy rap. If history has taught us anything it will not last long. And i for one am glad. There was no whoomp there it is or tootsie roll like epic dance song that everybody could be like “damn i gots to get up this is my jam!”. I mean do the superman i guess came close but not really.

Im not knocking it really because it is good to see people having fun again. Hell when i get into the club i dance like im junior high school again and i think nothing is wrong with that. The game is constantly changing and like i said the dance craze is dwindling now to only a couple acts do mainly dance music like travis porter. Furthermore it seems no longer viable to springboard into a career off a dance song. Just in the early 90s and late 80s hip hop had gone from dancing feel good music to thinky lyrics and lyrics for the sake of lyrics; All the while the street stories were always there. If culture is cyclical then i only have to wait until shiny suits and gold teeth are back in style again (thank God) because the first go around didnt last that long in the first place.
